Operation Flood started in 1970’s by National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) was aimed to create a “White Revolution” among Milk producers and avoid the seasonality of this business for the Milk Farmers. This formed a Milk Grid and the Gujarat Based AMUL‘s then cheif Mr Verghese Kurien was the moving factor behind this.

I have seen an interview of Verghese Kurien few years back. You know who was behind this revolution? It was Shri Lal Bahadhur Shastri who had asked if something could be done to save the milk producers and Mr. Kurien came up with the Co-Operative scheme for milk procurement.
If someone deserved Bharat Ratna, it is this man Mr. Kurien.
