This 14 storied, 177 feet tall building which houses the Regional office of LIC of India was the tallest building in India when it as inaugurated in 1959 and was the tallest building in Chennai for a very long time period. Check more about this tall building here.

This Chennai’s first highrise property was/is in the “Must see lists” in Chennai for most travellers, tourists especially from Southern Tamilnadu.

    Good picture… what the other blog also misses is that the building was thought of as a copy of the UN Building in NYC.

    And then the fire of July 11, 1975… the building was out of commission for about 3 years after that….
