.. the house on left side (with an yellow paint) retains the old world charm, with the house (or shops?) on the right (with a white paint) lost the plot of a wonderful balcony, verandah and more so the light.

Agree completely! The old “whitewash” and “color wash” finishes are a lot more elegant than more modern acrylic based paints. Sadly, the maintenance factor keeps the old methods in a distant second place as far as preferences are concerned.
