The Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA), 1971, was a controversial Indian law enacted to grant broad powers of preventive detention and search without warrants to the administration. Primarily used during the 1975–1977 Emergency, it was used to detain thousands of political opponents, journalists, and activists without trial, before being repealed in 1978.
