I’d rather have roses on my table than diamonds on my neck. – Emma Goldman
Most of the women in this part of the country wear flowers and substitute these fresh ones in place of Gold jewellery. This is a sign of happiness, belief, beauty & symbolic for many of them.
Seen here is a lady wearing jasmine after leaving her hair loose (post head bath) and visiting a temple.
I have a D40X too.
Good shot, did you use flash fill?
Ram: Thanks Isabel, no i was not using flash fill, just on the aperture priority mode and no flash or flash fill.
Beautiful and well said. Reminds me of my visit to Little India in Singapore and it looked like I’ve been transported to Chennai.
Ram – don’t you think it feels like the festival has already begun when the shops in the market have idols out up for sale?
I couldn’t resist taking some photographs.
Also because of the festive season (Teej & Janmashtami), many hawkers who sell fruits & children books in the market are now selling small idols, dhoop, agarbattis, red bandhani and satin clloth squares(with gota) and other pooja samagri(items).
It is festival time.
Ram: Thanks for the nice words Anu.
Yes the activities in the markets which stock the festive items bring the mood much earlier for the festivities ….
Hi from South Shields, nice picture you have here today.
I need your support, see my latest post at South Shields Daily Photo
Photographers rights in the UK and worldwide are under increasing threat and we need to make a stand now!
Unless something changes dramatically, this will be the last ever post at South Shields Daily Photo.
Ram: Quite sad Curly, many cities & public places don’t have a clue on public photography ….
Nice shot, Ram. We have a similar thing here in Indonesia, especially in Bali. Balinese women visit the temple with accompanied by magnificent offering for God, especially flowers on their beautiful hair.
Ram: Thanks Harry, your picture on the balinese women wearing flowers is superb. love it.
I like the quote you chose for this picture; and the great commentary and picture too. How true, flowers (nature) and not jewellery (wealth) are the most fitting symbol of happiness. Wealth does not always means happiness.
Ram: Thanks Eki …..
