Ferdinando Innocenti of Pescia designed the iconic Lambretta Scooters. In 1950’s the same were assembled in India by the Automobile Products of India (API) and in ’72, Scooters India Ltd. (SIL) a state-run enterprise based in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, bought the entire Lambretta manufacturing and trademark rights and later after a peak sales in 80’s they stopped production of these scooters in ’97. Now the Lambretta Engines are used by SIL to make Vikram 3 wheelers.
One such scooter (series II) in a very good & running condition spotted at Valluvar Kottam High Road, Nungambakkam. (Thinking of the similar scooter my dad had in the 70’s & early 80’s, MSM 1175)
