Chennai’s symbol

“The Triumph of Labour” Statue is one of the symbolic structures of the city of Chennai, apart from the Kapaleeswarar temple, Marina Beach, Santhome Cathedral etc.

The Statue which was installed in 1959 on the Republic Day, has a lot of history behind it, related to May Day marches and more. Read here.

The Sculptor of this is Devi Prasad Roy Choudury (15/6/1899 to 15/10/1975), the artist apart from paintings also learnt sculpture making under Hironmoy Choudhury and later at Italy. Majorly worked on Bronze.
