Srinivasan, is the neighbourhood “IRON”man of Pitchu Pillai Street, Mylapore. He is the local ironing and occasional launderer for this neighbourhood. He says these iron boxes are from a manufacturer from Hyderabad and they last longer and irons better.

That should read as ‘lift-and-press’.
They have become part and parcel of the daily life of many in Chennai.
Many of them also double up as property brokers. If you need a house in a locality, you need to just ask them. That extra buck coming from one or two months’ house rent is probably their windfall gains.
They are referred as presswalas – though not working in media.
