Chennai has quite a few statues of various leaders from across the state. Apart from various memorial halls / memorial places for many leaders, the statues also are present in quite a few traffic junctions.
One such statue of, Veeran Azhagu Muthukon, at the Egmore junction is seen here. My understanding about who he is “is limited”, like he’s from Tuticorin district and from a place called Kattarangulam. Where he’s supposed to have a memorial built for him by the State government.

I guess every country builds memorials to those they consider important. Maybe it’s important to do so.
I like the way you composed this photo.
Do you know why this person was important?
Ram: Once you look back after many years these memorials might bring back some essence of life somewhere …. also i’ll pass on the compliments on composition of the photo to my son (who clicked it).
I’m reading about him currently, will post soon more about the person.
I bet this particular veeran belongs to a particular community and there is a vote bank politics involved in erecting a statute for the man.
Ram: Damn sure, what you say is the reason …..
